What's New in CityScape 1.8
Road ModelingTangent Editor - Curve tangents can now be directly manipulated, allowing increased interactive control over road shapes. Complex Intersections - Build more complex intersection shapes using offset nodes within the intersection. Tunnels - CityScape's new tunnel system adds the ability to create underground roadways that integrate cleanly with the terrain.
Improved Level-of-Detail and Merge/Split Intersections - CityScape 1.8 makes several improvements to the road triangulation system to produce high quality road geometry while minimizing triangle counts. Additionally, the geometric modeling and texturing of merge/split intersections have been significantly improved.
GIS ImportImport Shapefiles - CityScape 1.8 has a customizable shapefile importer that allows you to import shapefiles defining roads, building footprints, railways, water bodies, and props (point features). The importer not only brings in geometry, but can import and apply associated attributes. Import OpenStreetMap (OSM) - Import freely available mapping data from OpenStreetMap through CityScape's new OSM file importer. Bring in road data, building footprints, railways, fences, and water bodies and instantly build 3D terrain.
Import Aerial Imagery - CityScape adds improved support for importing geolocated aerial imagery through the GeoTiff format. Import Geolocated Geometry - Import geographically positioned geometry for custom landmarks through FBX, Collada, OpenFlight, OBJ, and DXF formats. Import Elevation Data - CityScape 1.8 enhances support for various raster elevation formats such as DEM, DTED, GeoTiff, and GridFloat (binary and ASCII).
Preprocess GIS Data - CityScape 1.8 offers several tools for preprocessing GIS road data to improve the quality of the generated road models. Some tools include automatic altitude estimation, curve fitting, smoothing, and intelligent bridge/tunnel detection. User InterfaceNew User Interface - CityScape 1.8 uses a new icon-based user interface with hotkeys to improve usability and streamline productivity. With the new toolbar, you can easily switch between the most commonly used tools in a glance instead of searching through menus. Artists familiar with popular content creation tools will quickly become proficient with CityScape's new interface.
Meta DataMeta Data System - CityScape 1.8 adds a powerful and general-purpose meta data system. With it, one can interactively create their own data types and assign properties to buildings, power lines, water, user defined shapes, and other objects within the environment. This data can then be exported in COLLADA, Filmbox, and CSV files for user-specific purposes.
Create Meta Data Templates - Define your own meta data types as collections of strings, integers, real numbers, vectors, colors, and more. Assign Templates to Objects - Assign meta data templates to buildings, power lines, water, user defined shapes, and other objects within the environment. Data properties can then be set individually for each object. Assign Templates to User Defined Shapes - In addition to assigning meta data to existing objects, CityScape 1.8 allows you to assign meta data to non-graphical geometry such as points, polygons, and graphs. This can then be used for any application-specific purpose. Exporting Meta Data - Meta data associated with geometry can be embedded when exported to the COLLADA or Filmbox formats. CityScape can also export meta data to CSV files for easy integration with other tools. Computed Meta Data - Automatically compute geometric properties for meta data objects, such as the length of roads, square footage of buildings, acreage of lots, and more. Use computed meta data to generate reports for real estate parceling or urban planning. Geometry Import/ExportFilmbox (FBX) Import/Export - CityScape 1.8 adds direct import/export capability for the FBX format, providing better native support for Autodesk products such as 3ds Max, Maya, XSI, Revit, and Showcase.
OLIVE (PTF) Export - CityScape 1.8 exports directly to Forterra Systems' OLIVE virtual world software natively through the PTF format. Improved OpenFlight (FLT) Import/Export - Import and export to Presagis' Creator and other simulation industry tools using CityScape 1.8's improved support for OpenFlight 16.2. Improved Collada (DAE) Import/Export - Version 1.8 of CityScape has improved upon the existing import/export capabilities for the Collada format to provide full compatibility with Google SketchUp and other industry standard tools. Additional Features and ImprovementsEnhanced Power Lines - CityScape 1.8 has a new tool for laying out interconnected networks of power cables. Import pole and tower models and instantly connect up cables. As with all modeling tools in CityScape, the power line system generates scene graphs with efficient culling and level-of-detail built in.
Material Painting - Blend several texture maps together using CityScape's new material painting features. Create smooth transitions between dirt and grass, or any other surfaces.
Interactive Simulation - With CityScape 1.8, you can interactively drive around or fly over your city models to get a more realistic view of your world in action.
Enhanced Building Modeling - CityScape 1.8 offers new enhancements to the building modeling tools, supporting a wider range of roof styles and texture mapping options. Redistributable Viewer - Create and export 3D urban environments, and then view them interactively with the CityScape viewer. The viewer is also freely distributable, so you can pass it on to your customers to provide them with an interactive visualization of your project. 64-bit Version - Build larger worlds without the memory limitations of 32-bit software. CityScape 1.8 will have an optional 64-bit version for handling truly huge worlds. Improved Documentation & Tutorials - CityScape 1.8 has greatly extended documentation as well as new video tutorials. |
